☀️ The perfect Queen's Park Sunday morning
3–4 hours · walking · all ages · ££ · best on sunny weekends
- Stop 1: Gails Bakery, Salusbury Road
Grab coffees, pastries, and a babyccino. The window counter is great for people-watching while toddlers nibble croissants. Get there before 9:30 to avoid the queue.
- Stop 2: Queen's Park playground
Five-minute walk from Gails. Huge playground with separate toddler area, sandpit, and the best zip line in NW London. The duck pond is a hit with all ages — bring birdseed (not bread).
- Stop 3: The Alice House, Chamberlayne Road
15-minute walk or 5-minute drive. Proper Sunday roast, high chairs everywhere, colouring sheets, and a garden. Book ahead — Sunday lunch is popular. Kids' roast is £8.50.
🌧️ Rainy day: museums and pizza
4–5 hours · Jubilee line + walking · 3+ · mostly free · perfect when it's pouring
- Stop 1: Natural History Museum
Jubilee line to Green Park, then Piccadilly to South Kensington (~25 mins). Head straight to the dinosaurs, then the earthquake simulator. The Investigate centre (basement) lets kids handle real specimens. Free, but go early to beat crowds.
- Stop 2: Museum café or Exhibition Road
NHM café is fine but busy. If the rain's eased, walk 3 mins to Exhibition Road for street food or Pret. The benches outside the V&A are covered — good spot for a packed lunch.
- Stop 3: Pizza Pilgrims, Queen's Park
Tube back to Queen's Park (~20 mins). Neapolitan pizza with an open kitchen (free entertainment), high chairs, kids welcome. Perfect wind-down meal after a big museum morning. In and out in 45 mins if you need to.
👶 Toddler morning: soft play and story time
2–3 hours · walking/driving · 0–4 · £ · any weather
- Stop 1: Willesden Green Library — children's floor
Start with the free rhyme time or story session (check Brent Libraries timetable). The kids' floor has a brilliant open-plan layout with plenty of buggy space. Even without a session, the picture book area keeps toddlers happy.
- Stop 2: Pizza Pilgrims, Salusbury Road
Five-minute drive or 15-minute walk from the library. Quick Neapolitan pizza, high chairs, and an open kitchen kids love watching. Simple Margherita is excellent value. Ideal toddler lunch — in and out in 30 minutes.
🍂 Autumn walk: Kensal Rise to Queen's Park
2 hours · walking · all ages · £ · best Sep–Nov
- Stop 1: Coffee at Cable Co, Chamberlayne Road
Pick up excellent coffee and a pastry from this Kensal Rise institution. They're lovely with kids and the window seats are prime buggy-parking territory.
- Stop 2: Walk through College Road to the canal
Wander down College Road (the tree-lined bit is gorgeous in autumn), cross over to the Grand Union Canal towpath. Collect conkers, spot narrowboats, feed ducks. About 25 minutes at toddler pace.
- Stop 3: Queen's Park wildlife area
Enter Queen's Park from the Harvist Road side. The wildlife area is tucked away and much quieter than the main playground. Perfect for nature-spotting and a peaceful end to the walk.
🎉 Saturday birthday-party survival plan
Party time + 2–3 hours post-party · driving · 3+ · ££
- Stop 1: The party (Jump In! Cricklewood or your chosen venue)
Drop-off parties are the dream, but if you're staying: bring headphones, a book, and treat the café coffee as a reward. The party host handles the kids — you're just moral support.
- Stop 2: Bounce-off at Queen's Park playground
Post-party sugar crash? The playground burns off the last of the cake energy. Aim for the sandpit if you're avoiding wipe-clean only clothes. The duck pond is a good calmer-down.
- Stop 3: Parents' reward at The Salusbury
You've earned a drink. The Salusbury on Salusbury Road has a good wine list, proper food, and a relaxed enough atmosphere that you can debrief the party chaos without glares from neighbouring tables.
🏙️ Central London big day out
Full day · Jubilee line + walking · 4+ · ££ · major expedition
- Stop 1: Science Museum — Wonderlab
Jubilee line to Green Park, Piccadilly to South Kensington. Book Wonderlab tickets in advance (worth the £10-ish for kids 7+). The Pattern Pod and The Garden (under-5s sensory space) are both free but need timed tickets on busy days.
- Stop 2: Lunch at Byron or Honest Burgers, South Kensington
Both are 5-minute walks from the museums, have kids' menus, high chairs, and fast service. Byron does a decent kids' deal. If the weather's good, Hyde Park is 10 minutes away for a picnic instead.
- Stop 3: London Transport Museum, Covent Garden
Tube to Covent Garden (or walk 30 mins through Hyde Park). Kids can climb aboard real buses and Tube trains. Under-18s free. The play zone on the top floor is excellent. Museum shop is expensive — set expectations.
- Stop 4: Pizza Pilgrims, Queen's Park (homeward)
Jubilee line back from Green Park to Queen's Park. You're all exhausted — Pizza Pilgrims is your no-booking-needed, fast-pizza, kids-welcome end to a big day.
